The River Dove ( / dʌv / DUV, traditionally / doʊv / DOHV) is the principal river of the southwestern Peak District, in the Midlands of England and is around 45 miles (72 km) in length. It rises on Axe Edge Moor near Buxton and flows generally south to its confluence with the River Trent at Newton Solney. [1]

Beresford Dale is a narrow tree lined dale, hemmed in by limestone cliffs. On the right high above the dale stood Beresford Hall. A tower built close to the sight of the old hall is all that remains. The tower is visible along the path from Hartington.
